THE story of COWBOY HOUSE
“The Cowboy House” is the oldest home at Puakea Ranch, built by Plantation working families at the turn of the century. Zejiro Kawamoto lived in this home with his young wife after emigrating from Hiroshima, Japan. All three Kawamoto children, Yoshi, Masa and Thema were born in this charming Hawaiian Hale beginning in 1922. It was the heart of Puakea Ranch with much activity and laughing children. By the early 1940’s the Kawamoto Family moved up the mountain a little further to the Puuhue Ranch section and the cowboy house became the bunkhouse for the Paniolo’s– the Hawaiian cowboys working at the ranch.

The country charm and simple details of The Cowboy House will take you back in time and invite you to slow down and relax with family and friends. The Cowboy House has a long lanai with separate doors leading into two of the three bedrooms. These were the bunk rooms for the single cowboys. The house has been referred to as the “single man’s” house and the Cowboy Camp area as James Cottage is a small home located next door. The open living space leads to the bright and airy kitchen with views of the garden.
